                                                                  YOUTH COUNSELING AND SUPPORT SERVICES

                                                                  Counseling Support Services

                                                                  The Center offers counseling support for youth ages 14 -24 who do not have medical insurance or the ability to pay. Staffed by a professional counselor and master's degree candidates with experience working with the LGBT population. Counseling Support Services are short-term and solution focused.

                                                                   The program is limited to counseling and do not offer medication management services.

                                                                  Counseling Support Services include, but are not limited to:
                                                                  psychosocial intake and assessment; individual, couple, family and group counseling; consultation and referral.

                                                                  _BE SEX SMART - WORKSHOP FOR YOUTH - AGES 14-24

                                                                  The LGBT Community Center offers young people ages 14-24 a comprehensive sexual health program called Be Sex Smart that addresses HIV prevention and overall wellness. 
                                                                   
                                                                  Based on a series of workshops created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this intervention provides young people with a confidential, small group environment where they can ask questions and openly discuss matters of concern. 
                                                                   
                                                                  Program activity centers on self-esteem, HIV/STD/STI prevention, healthy relationship building, assertiveness, coping skills and problem solving. The sessions are as follows, and their success depends on the youth participants:
                                                                  • Session 1: Learning the Language of HIV and other STD/STIs
                                                                  • Session 2: Assessing Personalized Risk
                                                                  • Session 3: Learning How to Use Condoms
                                                                  • Session 4: Effects of Drugs and Alcohol
                                                                  • Session 5: Recognizing and Coping with Feelings
                                                                  • Session 6: Negotiating Effectively
                                                                  • Session 7: Self-Talk - Switching Negative Thoughts to Positive Thoughts
                                                                  • Session 8: Practicing Safer Sex
                                                                  • Session 9: Individualized Counseling
                                                                  • Session 10: Visit to a Community Health Resource

                                                                  Youth and young adults are also welcome to join us every Monday and Wednesday, 3-8pm for cooking, art, social and recreational activities.
